MISSION: To improve lives by empowering communities to develop and carry out effective substance abuse prevention efforts.

HELP YOUR COMMUNITY REDUCE PROBLEMS BY ACHIEVING THESE OBJECTIVES:
· Increase awareness of the risks involved in substance abuse.
· Instill positive, healthy values in children and teens.
· Help young people improve social skills, increase involvement in positive activities, and decrease rebellious behaviors.
· Raise youth according to high expectations and with fair, consistent discipline.
· Increase parental effectiveness and reduce family conflict.
· Decrease family attitudes that favor inappropriate behavior.
· Improve chances for academic success and recognition at school.
· Increase youth bonding to their families, schools, and communities.
· Make it harder for youth to obtain tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
· Develop and enforce community policies, ordinances, and laws that discourage substance abuse.
· Decrease negative effects of media influence.
· Identify and refer teens and families at risk.

SERVICES INCLUDE INFORMATION, TRAINING, AND ASSISTANCE ON THE FOLLOWING:
· Effects of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, methamphetamine, inhalants, and other drugs on individuals, the family, and society.
· Help assess your community and identify primary factors influencing substance abuse in your community.
· Model Programs, Best Practices, and current research.
· Other effective strategies for coalitions, parents, school staff members, youth group workers, faith leaders, businesses, etc.
· Evaluation of strategies and objectives.
· Resources, including free information, brochures, lesson plans, speakers, and websites.
· How to analyze marketing and media influences, and how to develop a media or social norming campaign.
· Information for advocates, including action alerts, public policy information, model ordinances, and effective school policies.
· Information about warning signs of teen drug abuse and resources available to help.
· How to recruit and train volunteers.
· Organizational and leadership development.
· Find funding for activities that will reduce substance abuse.
· Search Institute’s Developmental Assets community awareness trainings.
· Methamphetamines.
· Teen Baseline trainings.
· Teens Against Tobacco Use.
· Youth Tobacco Law training for tobacco retailers.

SORRY, BUT THESE ARE SOME THINGS THAT WE CAN’T DO:
· Write grants for your group.
· Give inspirational speeches at school assemblies.
· Provide trainings with less than 3 weeks’ notice.
· Act as your team or coalition leader.
· Act as chaperones at alcohol-free and drug-free events.
· Donate money to your organization.
· Change youth behavior after one training.
